A symposium on the rejuvenation and development of the Sichuan-Shaanxi Revolutionary Base was held in Bazhong, a city of Southwest China's Sichuan province, on December 19, to pay tribute to revolutionary martyrs, pass on the traditions of revolution, deepen regional cooperation and seek common rejuvenation.

Attendees of the symposium agreed that the Sichuan-Shaanxi Revolutionary Base made enormous sacrifices and great contributions to the success of the Chinese revolution and the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC), and wrote a glorious chapter in the history of the country's revolution.

During the past few years, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the State Council have intensified their efforts to support the development of the Sichuan-Shaanxi Revolutionary Base and other revolutionary bases in the country. Major policies, such as the Opinions on Promoting Rejuvenation and Development of the Revolutionary Bases in the New Era and the Plan for the Rejuvenation and Development of Areas with Special Characteristics, which include underdeveloped regions, old revolutionary base areas, border areas, ecologically degraded areas, resource-rich areas and old industrial cities, have been adopted to create more development opportunities for nationwide revolutionary bases.

Located on the border of Sichuan, Shaanxi, Gansu and Chongqing, the Sichuan-Shaanxi Revolutionary Base is interconnected with rivers, enjoys deep historical and cultural connections, and boasts internationally renowned green and ecological resources. The rising influence of local trade fairs and cultural festivals has boosted the profile of agricultural produce and other commodities both at home and abroad.

The symposium said that the Sichuan-Shaanxi Revolutionary Base shall pass on the traditions of revolution, uncover the base’s history and that of the Fourth Front Red Army and build a revolutionary cultural and tourism corridor. It will advance the construction of a cultural park of the Red Army, and strengthen the innovative exploration and creative transformation of the spirit of Sichuan-Shaanxi Soviet Revolutionary Base. It will work to deepen regional collaboration on infrastructural building, public services and ecological conservation, seek major policy support from the provincial and central governments, and develop high-level development patterns. It will also forge new development strengths, make full use of its revolutionary and ecological resources, advance resource integration and industrial collaboration, and promote the formation of industrial clusters in culture and tourism, healthcare, food and beverages, bio-medicine and electronic information. It will continue follow the principle of cooperation for shared benefits in the convergence of developmental elements and resources, technological research and development, product exhibition and sales and the building of professional platforms for good circulation, and endeavor to become a highland for industrial collaboration and economic development.

The symposium also held two panel discussions on industrial cultivation and the rejuvenation of revolutionary bases and the integrated development of revolutionary culture and tourism. Officials from relevant departments and experts put forward their proposals on the industrial development, the development of cultural and tourism healthcare and the exploration of revolutionary resources in Bazhong.

Participants also visited the Sichuan-Shaanxi Revolutionary Base Martyrs' Cemetery, the country's largest for Red Army soldiers, Enyang ancient town and the Bazhong Economic and Technological Development Area.
