General introduction of Bazhong

Bazhong is located in the northeast of Sichuan province. It was a special city of the Sichuan-Shaanxi Soviet Area in 1933. Bazhong prefecture, which was separated from Daxian prefecture, was established in 1993. In 2000, Bazhong was established as a prefectural-level city, consisting of three counties of Nanjiang, Tongjiang and Pingchang, two districts of Bazhou and Enyang, and two provincial-level zones of Bazhong Economic Development Zone and Pingchang Economic Development Zone.

Bazhong covers an area of 12,300 square kilometers and has a total population of 3.8 million. It is commonly acknowledged as one of the central cities of regional development and poverty alleviation plan in the Qinling-Dabashan mountain regions and the core zone of revitalization and development plan in Sichuan-Shaanxi Soviet Area. It has been awarded the titles of "National Health City" and "National Forest City".

Unique geographical location

Bazhong, situated on the south of the South-North Boundary of Qinling Mountains and Huaihe River, serves as the geometric center of three metropolitan cities of Chengdu, Chongqing and Xi'an connecting with the Belt and Road Initiative, Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Zone and Guanzhong-Tianshui Economic Zone. Bazhong is quickening its steps to build a comprehensive transportation system of "six vertical, six horizontal, three rings and one airline" based on one airport, four railways and ten expressways, increasingly highlighting its position as the regional transportation hub. 

Rich historical culture

Bazhong is the hometown of Ba people and the center of Ba culture. The ancient Ba people lived here 5,000 years ago and gave birth to the spirit of "loyalty, bravery, faithfulness and honesty". The Ancient Micang Road which runs through north and south has been flourishing for thousands of years.

Over 1,900 years ago, Ba county was established here. The fighting sites of the epic battle between Chu and Han armies in 202 BC can be still seen nowadays. Such stories have been passed down till today as Zhang Fei stationing troops in Mouyang Old City during the Three Kingdoms period (AD 220-280), prince Li Xian of the Tang Dynasty (618-907) studying in Zhanghuai Mountain, Wang Bo, a litterateur of the early Tang Dynasty, travelling at Liujindu Port. The colored cliff grottoes carved in the Prime Tang Dynasty are well-known all over China.

Bazhong is the center and capital of the original Sichuan-Shaanxi Soviet Area where the red culture is still thriving through history. The older generation of proletarian revolutionists such as Xu Xiangqian and Li Xiannian, and 446 generals once fought here, nurturing the Red Army's spirit of "strong will, bold innovation, joint endeavor, and continuous struggle". Y.C. James Yen, a civilian educationist, is famous all over the world. Wu Weiren, chief engineer of lunar exploration, and Han Jiecai, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, are playing leading roles in their respective fields.

Diversified natural resources 

Bazhong's unique climate of 31 degrees north latitude endows the nature with rich gifts. There are more than 2,400 species of wild animals and plants, rich graphite reserves leading in Asia, abundant natural gas reserves in the Tongjiang-Nanjiang-Bazhong Structure Belt, and organic agricultural products rich in selenium. Bazhong is named as "The Hometown of Selenium-enriched Tea in China", "The Hometown of Nanjiang Yellow Goats in China" and "The Hometown of Karst Caves in China". It has been honored as an Important Biological Gene Bank in the northern margin of Sichuan Basin by UNESCO.

Sound ecological environment

The forest coverage rate here reached 62.5% in 2019. There are Guangwu Mountain -Nuoshui River National Scenic Area, 19 national AAAA scenic spots, and 4 national forest parks. The red leaves of Guangwu Mountain are beautiful in the core scenic spot which covers an area of 830 square kilometers. The "Tour of China International Cycling Queen Track" is famous at home and abroad. Bazhong is a pilot city for self-driving tour in China and an international mountain healthcare tourism destination. 

Strong development momentum 

Bazhong has seriously implemented the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China as well as the decisions and policies of the CPC Central Committee and the Sichuan Provincial Committee of the CPC, speeding up to build the demonstration zone of revitalization and development of the old revolutionary areas in Sichuan-Shaanxi provinces, and striving to blaze a new trail in poverty alleviation and green development in the Qinling-Dabashan mountain regions.

In recent years, the growth rate of the city's economic indicators has been consistently ranked among the top in Sichuan province, indicating a strong trend of rapid growth and quick development. The people of Bazhong are striding towards a moderately well-off society in all aspects.
