Located in Enyang district, the ancient town is a famous historical and cultural town in China and a characteristic town for cultural tourism in Sichuan province.

The town is home to the largest well-preserved ancient buildings of the Ming and Qing dynasties in Sichuan province. 

Over the nearly 1500 years since the establishment of the Southern and Northern Dynasties (420-581) Enyang became connected with the Micang ancient road and with the logistics of Shaanxi and Chongqing. It was an important water terminal and material distribution center in northeast Sichuan and the most prosperous town on the ancient road of Micang. 

The ancient town of Enyang is also a famous red tourism town. From 1933 to 1935, the Fourth Red Army Front in Enyang established various administrative organs of the Soviet Union county.
